The taste of Shabbat – Parshat Nitzavim 5776
Rav Mordechai Elon
Our Parsha starts with a unique introduction
You are all standing (Nitzavim) today in front of God
Not just some, all of you.
Your Leaders, elders and officers, all of Israel, Your children, wives, and converts in your midst – from woodcutters to water drawers
There are ten different levels, from the leaders to the water drawers. All standing ready to enter God's covenant.
"Today” can be understood as simply Moshe's last day that will be described until the end of Parshat Vezot Habracha. “Today” is also something much deeper – but first let's look at the term nitzavim “standing”
