The taste of Shabbat – Pinchas 5777
Rav Mordechai Elon
Our Parsha opens with God telling Moshe
Phinchas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the kohen has turned my anger away from the children of Israel
And his reward:
Therefore, say, "I hereby give him my covenant of peace
We will ask a simple question:- what is a covenant of peace? If we answer that peace is the task of the tribe of Kohanim, just as his grandfather Aharon was "a lover and pursuer of peace", then what makes Pinchas special?
