The taste of Shabbat – Vayetze 5778

Rav Mordechai Elon

Whilst running from Eisav, Yaacov reaches Har Hamoriah, The Temple Mount and dreams his
famous dream:
And there was a ladder based on the ground and its head reaching heaven, with Godly angels
ascending and decending it .
God promises him
I will be with you wherever you go Yaacov makes an oath that the stone he used as a
pillow..
Will be God's home From there he continues his journey
Now Jacob lifted his feet and went to the land of the people of the East. The lifting of feet is an interesting idiom, but as we know, our holy Torah does not waste words. We already know that he is on his way to Haran, so what does this teach us? Rashi gives an original explanation
His heart lifted his feet, and it became easy to travel In other words it wasn’t that his legs were not
heavy and he didn’t need to be pushed ,Rashi tells us that his heart lifted his feet, and as a result it was
it was easy for him to walk.
